Our school system encourages growth, creativity
and teamwork.
On
a district level, we offer a new teacher orientation before the school year
begins and a series of workshops for new teachers. Additionally, we provide
ongoing staff development for all faculty on instruction and curriculum support,
classroom management, diversity, school improvement and technology.
New Teacher Support
Program
Each school in the parish offers
opportunities for continued growth and learning, though it takes on different
formats at different schools. Some schools offer team teaching opportunities,
while others access federal, state, and local grants to develop and implement
innovative teaching and learning strategies. We will help you gather information
about individual schools as you decide where your needs will best be met.
As a part of the Louisiana Teacher Assistance and Assessment Program,
all teachers in their first year will be partnered with a mentor teacher. The
mentor teacher will provide support and enhance the training and professional
development of a new teacher through observation, feedback, and effective
instruction.
EBRPSS enjoys strong relationships with local universities that provide
professional development opportunities. Louisiana State
University is the largest African American university system in the country.
In addition, the Teacher Tuition Exemption Program is available through the LA Dept. of
Education for teachers seeking further educational
coursework.
EBRPSS supports teachers' efforts to advance professionally.
In conjunction with Louisiana State Universty, we offer an Academy for
Aspiring Leaders for prospective principals. The first component of the
Academy, the K-12 Educational Leadership Master's Degree Program, offers
a masters curriculum with all administrative credentials to teachers who have
demonstrated leadership and who aspire to be future principals. The second
component, the Administrative Internship Program, is designed to provide interns
a hands-on experience in administrative roles. Participants are immersed in the
daily rigors of running a school and are mentored by current and retired
principals
